"I had a very good experience when NWA Search placed me into my current role. We discussed exactly what I was looking for, and they managed to find a very good fit, first time. I liked their approach as they didn’t send me into numerous interviews.”

SELF BELIEF & OTHER KEY IDEAS

Benefit from our years of experience in the recruitment industry and read on...

Self-belief & confidence is essential, however not necessarily for the reasons you think.

Employers like people who believe in themselves as they are more likely to come up with solutions not complaints. They’ll say “I’ll figure it out” instead of “this can't be done.” They possess the positive mindset to think of solutions and answers to problems. Rather than looking for excuses, these progressive people work toward achieving their goals with gusto and enthusiasm. This is important to most companies so candidates may benefit from mentioning this during an interview.

Employers also like people who are confident as they act with clarity, purpose and bring an element of excitement. This, in turn, attracts others to join aboard, which will further accelerate their chances of success. Inwardly, they may be a little frightened and harbor some doubts, but they persevere despite these feelings.

Another key pull towards those candidates who are confident is that they aren’t afraid to say that they don’t have an answer and ask for help when they need it. They reciprocate by mentoring and lifting up others. You’ll notice that intrepid people speak with authority, calmness and enthusiasm. There's no trash talking or demeaning others. They understand that there will be conflicts, setbacks and haters, but that won't intimidate them. This stands you in good stead when working in a team and in a new position in a company, all valuable assets from an employers point of view.

DRESS TO IMPRESS?

AND IF SO WHY AND HOW?

Have you ever noticed that when we dress for work, even in a casual way, we perform better? Being well dressed on days we have an interview to attend to can make us feel more confident, even powerful. You only ever get one chance at a first impression, if that happens to be on a Zoom call make sure that you give the look that you intend. Dress to impress. Dress to convey that you are the person for that particular job. This may mean conveying a sense of authority, confidence or fun.

There are many ways that dressing appropriately affects our thoughts. Clothes don’t just make us feel good or bad, they are also a symbol of activity. In her book ‘mind what you wear’ Karen Pine says that wearing the right or wrong clothes affect your mental attitude and that clothes have an ability to change both your mood and thoughts.

If you're not sure what to wear to an interview, the website and social media pages of the company you're interviewing for can be informative, but not always. If you can't determine the organisation's dress code, call the Human Resources department. Explain to the HR representative that you have an upcoming interview with the company and want to know how you should dress. You might think that this could go against you during the interview, but it most likely won't. An employer may even
appreciate the fact you took the effort to find out how to dress suitably for the interview.
